Voyage description

Embark on an unforgettable 5-day voyage aboard the Santa Maria Manuela, sailing from the chic French Riviera city of Nice to Valencia, Spain’s city of striking contrasts.

Before we set sail, explore Nice’s rich maritime history, stroll along the Promenade des Anglais, wander through Vieux Nice with its charming narrow streets and vibrant markets, or visit the UN Oceans Conference exhibits to learn about the beauty and fragility of our waters and what we can do to protect them.

With our heads filled with the colors of the French Riviera, we set sail southwest for Valencia. Volunteer to help the crew hoist and set the sails—the feeling of helming a 68m sailing ship and sensing her response to the wheel is something to savor forever. There’s nothing our crew loves more than sharing their sailing knowledge with guests, and they’ll encourage you to get actively involved in sailing the ship.

Knot classes offer a chance to learn a new skill while sharing sailing stories with shipmates, and if weather allows, there’s the opportunity to go up the mast or relax on the bowsprit. A sunset drink on deck is the perfect way to end each day.

Our Mediterranean adventure concludes in Valencia, Spain’s city of contrasts, where a charming old town sits beside futuristic buildings. This vibrant city can be explored by foot, with the temptation of a paella lunch ever-present. Don’t miss Plaza de la Reina with the Cathedral and the Miguelete Tower offering beautiful views, the UNESCO World Heritage Silk Exchange, or the Modernist Central Market—Europe’s largest fresh produce market.

Upon arrival in Valencia, it’s time to celebrate. Share stories of your voyage with fellow shipmates before disembarking.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Local insights suggest that by June, beautiful Valencia will be back on its feet following the October 2024 floods. We are committed to supporting the local community and will make every effort to keep Valencia as our final destination. If the city is not accessible, we will dock at a nearby port.

  • On the sun-soaked French Riviera, Nice offers a perfect blend of coastal charm and refined French culture. Begin your visit with a leisurely walk along the iconic Promenade des Anglais, where the turquoise Mediterranean stretches out beneath a bright sky. Lose yourself in the vibrant alleyways of Vieux Nice, the old town, where colorful facades and lively markets bring the city to life.

Art lovers can explore the Musée Matisse, a peaceful retreat showcasing the artist's works amidst olive groves. For sweeping views, head up to Castle Hill, where the city and the sparkling Baie des Anges unfold before you. A stop in Place Masséna reveals a lively square with its distinctive black-and-white tiles and elegant fountains.

Finally, treat yourself to a local delicacy, socca, a savory chickpea pancake, or indulge in fresh seafood with a view of the dazzling Mediterranean waters.

  • Spain’s vibrant coastal city of Valencia offers a must-see attraction: the futuristic City of Arts and Sciences. This architectural marvel, with its sleek white structures and serene pools, provides a glimpse into the city’s modern side. To experience Valencia’s rich history, take a stroll through the old town and visit the stunning Valencia Cathedral, home to the legendary Holy Grail.

The nearby Mercado Central is a sensory feast, with colorful stalls offering fresh produce, local delicacies, and traditional Valencian foods. Just a short walk away, the lush Turia Gardens, a former riverbed, offer a peaceful spot for a leisurely stroll or bike ride.

Of course, no visit to Valencia is complete without trying the city’s most famous dish—paella, best enjoyed at a beachside restaurant along the golden shores of Playa de la Malvarrosa.

The second night of our trip was sky clear enough so we could see all those stars and Milkyway. And we were so lucky that at the same moment, we reached the place with a lot of plankton that was fluorescent. It was a very magic moment.

Many small moments with different crew members made this navigation magical: share the spectacle of a sunset or dolphins playing at the front of the boat, participate in maneuvers, ...etc

I won't forget the long-suffering patient crew member who taught me to tie a double bowline. It took ages but I finally got it, and was able to teach another passenger.

Plein de moments magiques pendant le voyage. C'était impressionnant de voir le bateau depuis le zodiac quand on se trouvait à environ 50 ou 100 m du navire. Super la baignade en pleine mer.
