Voyage description

Join the Santa Maria Manuela on an unforgettable sailing adventure along the Italian coast, discovering the untouched beauty of Tuscany and the Cinque Terre.

We set sail from Livorno, a historic port with a rich maritime tradition, and head towards Portoferraio, on the stunning island of Elba. Here, you’ll have the chance to explore crystal-clear waters and breathtaking landscapes that once captivated Napoleon during his exile.

From Elba, we sail towards La Spezia, the gateway to the iconic Cinque Terre, a true gem of the Italian Riviera. Before arriving, enjoy magical moments onboard—helping to hoist the sails or simply relaxing on deck as the Mediterranean coastline unfolds before your eyes.

*Travellers must be between 14 and 80 years old on the date of sailing to be eligible for the trip.

  • Livorno, a port city on the Tuscan coast, offers a mix of maritime charm and cultural treasures. Its picturesque canals, known as the “Venezia Nuova” district, are lined with colorful buildings, quaint shops, and restaurants serving freshly caught seafood. The city’s central market is a lively spot to experience local flavors and Tuscan specialties.

Nearby, you’ll find some of Italy’s most renowned destinations: Pisa, with its iconic Leaning Tower, is just 20 minutes away, while the stunning art and history of Florence can be reached in under two hours. For those seeking natural beauty, the Etruscan Coast offers idyllic beaches and coastal trails. Livorno is not just a gateway but a destination in its own right, combining coastal charm with proximity to Tuscany’s most iconic attractions.

  • Portoferraio is the capital and main port of Elba Island, part of the Tuscan Archipelago.  It is a town that combines history, culture, nature, and adventure.  Whether you’re interested in exploring ancient fortresses,  visiting Napoleon’s house or enjoying idyllic beaches, Portoferraio has something for everyone.

The beaches of Portoferraio are the main attraction of a stay here, with clear turquoise waters that wouldn’t look out of place in the Caribbean.

Portoferraio is home to three imposing fortifications that dominate the skyline. They were built by Cosimo I de’ Medici, the powerful Grand Duke of Tuscany, to protect the town from pirate attacks.

  • Nestled between green hills and the blue Mediterranean, La Spezia is a charming port with a rich cultural heritage. Its tree-lined seafront promenade invites you for peaceful strolls by the water, while the lively city center is filled with historic squares, cozy cafés and a market brimming with local produce.

La Spezia is the main gateway to the famous Cinque Terre, five colorful villages nestled in the cliffs of the Italian Riviera, a paradise for nature and photography lovers. For lovers of history and culture, La Spezia is home to the Naval Museum, which pays homage to the region's strong maritime tradition.

The strategic location also allows easy access to other must-see destinations, such as Portovenere, with its picturesque houses and the impressive Church of St. Peter overlooking the sea, and the charming town of Lerici, with its medieval castle and quiet beaches.
Whether as a starting point for coastal adventures or a place to enjoy its relaxed pace, La Spezia is an Italian jewel waiting to be discovered.

The second night of our trip was sky clear enough so we could see all those stars and Milkyway. And we were so lucky that at the same moment, we reached the place with a lot of plankton that was fluorescent. It was a very magic moment.

Many small moments with different crew members made this navigation magical: share the spectacle of a sunset or dolphins playing at the front of the boat, participate in maneuvers, ...etc

I won't forget the long-suffering patient crew member who taught me to tie a double bowline. It took ages but I finally got it, and was able to teach another passenger.

Plein de moments magiques pendant le voyage. C'était impressionnant de voir le bateau depuis le zodiac quand on se trouvait à environ 50 ou 100 m du navire. Super la baignade en pleine mer.
