Voyage description

Join us on a fabulous sailing adventure aboard the beautifully renovated Santa Maria Manuela. This unique journey takes you from the lush landscapes of Madeira to the striking shores of Tenerife, with a delightful stop at La Palma, a true treasure of the Canary Islands.

We kick off our voyage along Madeira’s captivating coastline, renowned for its ancient laurel forests and breathtaking vistas. Setting sail from the vibrant harbor of Funchal, we’ll venture into the open ocean.

Our route takes us past the Ilhas Selvagens marine park, one of Europe’s largest protected marine areas. Weather permitting, we’ll hop on a zodiac to explore these remote islands, where you might spot elusive Shearwater birds nesting along the shores.

When on board, you’ll have plenty of chances to immerse yourself in the sailing activities - whether it’s taking the helm, trimming the sails, or climbing aloft to enjoy a different perspective. When you’re not sailing, take a moment to relax on deck, soak in the sun, or swap stories with fellow adventurers.

As we approach La Palma, you’ll be captivated by its green forests, volcanic landscapes, and picturesque villages—a serene escape from the crowds.

Our journey wraps up in Santa Cruz, Tenerife, where our crew will warmly bid you farewell after an unforgettable exploration of the Atlantic. Join us for this remarkable experience—you won’t want to miss it!

  • Funchal, the capital of Madeira, offers a perfect mix of maritime beauty, rich culture, and incredible food. Located along the Atlantic coast, it’s known for its stunning harbor and the surrounding crystal-clear waters.

Wander through its cobbled streets and vibrant markets. The Mercado dos Lavradores is the heart of the city's culinary scene, where you’ll find fresh local produce, exotic fruits, and Madeira’s famous black scabbardfish. Pair that with a taste of bolo do caco, a local garlic bread, or indulge in a glass of Madeira wine—renowned worldwide for its unique flavor. Funchal’s cultural side shines through its architecture, such as the 15th-century Funchal Cathedral, and its artistic touches, like the colorful murals in the old town.

For maritime history, a visit to the Museum of the History of Madeira or the replica of Christopher Columbus’s ship, the Santa Maria, brings the island’s deep connection to the sea to life.

These highlights and so many more make Funchal a true feast for the senses, both on the water and off.

  • Santa Cruz de La Palma, the capital of the island of La Palma, is a charming city with a rich historical and cultural heritage. Its cobbled streets, lined with colonial buildings featuring wooden balconies, invite a leisurely stroll through the historic center, where Plaza de España and the Church of El Salvador are must-see landmarks. The city's port was a strategic point during the age of exploration, and its replica of a Spanish galleon, the Barco de la Virgen, pays tribute to this maritime history.

The local cuisine includes delights like almendrados (almond cookies) and fresh seafood dishes typical of the region. The city is an excellent base for exploring La Palma's volcanic landscapes and hiking trails, as the island is known as the "Isla Bonita." Combining tranquility, culture, and nature, Santa Cruz de La Palma is the perfect destination for those seeking an authentic Canary Islands experience.

  • Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, offers a vibrant mix of culture, nature, and tradition. The island is known for its towering Mount Teide, Spain's highest peak, which provides stunning views and hiking trails for nature lovers.

In the city of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, a UNESCO World Heritage site, you can explore colonial streets, museums, and historic churches. Another highlight is the capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, famous for its colorful carnival, one of the largest in the world. In terms of cuisine, Tenerife offers specialties such as gofio, papas arrugadas with mojo sauce, and freshly grilled fish.

For beach lovers, the volcanic black or golden sand beaches, like Las Teresitas, are perfect for relaxation. With a blend of African, Spanish, and Latin American influences, Tenerife is a destination that surprises with its cultural and natural diversity.

The second night of our trip was sky clear enough so we could see all those stars and Milkyway. And we were so lucky that at the same moment, we reached the place with a lot of plankton that was fluorescent. It was a very magic moment.

I won't forget the long-suffering patient crew member who taught me to tie a double bowline. It took ages but I finally got it, and was able to teach another passenger.

Plein de moments magiques pendant le voyage. C'était impressionnant de voir le bateau depuis le zodiac quand on se trouvait à environ 50 ou 100 m du navire. Super la baignade en pleine mer.
