Voyage description

Our journey begins in Ponta Delgada, on the island of São Miguel, the largest and most important island in the Azores. Before boarding, take time to explore its charming streets, visit the famous Portas da Cidade, discover Europe’s only tea plantations, or relax in the hot springs of Ferraria.

Step aboard the Santa Maria Manuela and prepare for an unforgettable ocean voyage. The Azores have been named the most beautiful destination in the world by National Geographic, and there is no better way to journey back to Lisbon than by sailing. October marks the start of marine migrations, offering a great chance to spot sperm whales, baleen whales, and various species of dolphins that often swim alongside the ship.

This 785-nautical-mile crossing is a true blue water sailing experience. Our crew loves sharing their knowledge and will encourage you to actively participate, whether it’s hoisting and trimming sails or taking the helm and feeling the power of the wind on a 68-meter sailing ship. You can also learn knot-tying skills, and if weather permits, climb the mast or lie in the bowsprit netting above the ocean.

As the sun sets, there’s nothing better than enjoying a drink on deck, soaking in the peacefulness of the open sea. Lisbon welcomes us with its unmistakable charm, as we sail up the Tagus River beneath the 25 de Abril Bridge.

VIEW CABINS

*Travellers must be between 14 and 80 years old on the date of sailing to be eligible for the trip.

  • Ponta Delgada, the vibrant capital of São Miguel in the Azores, captivates visitors with its rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes. The historic center, featuring the impressive Church of São Sebastião and the City Gates, invites exploration of its colonial architecture. Don't miss the chance to stroll through the António Borges Garden, where lush flora intertwines with serene pathways.

For food lovers, the famous Furnas stew is a must-try experience, along with the freshest fish and seafood dishes. Local markets, such as the Mercado da Graça, provide a true immersion into the flavors of the land, showcasing regional fruits, cheeses, and wines. Ponta Delgada is undoubtedly a destination that beautifully combines history, nature, and culinary delights in perfect harmony.

  • Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, is a city rich in history and flavor. Its winding, narrow streets of the older parts of town will pull you in, and if you’re lucky you may hear the sound of fado drifting from small taverns. The tiles—those colorful azulejos—tell stories of the past as they cover walls and buildings.

Take some time to visit the Belém Tower and Jerónimos Monastery. Both are UNESCO sites, tied to Portugal’s maritime history. You’ll feel the weight of centuries when you stand in front of them, thinking back to the Age of Discoveries

Hungry? Head to a local bakery and grab a pastel de nata. Trust us, it’s the kind of treat you’ll think about long after you’ve left. If you have time, stroll up to Miradouro da Senhora do Monte for one of the best views in the city. The rooftops, the Tagus River, the way the light hits it all—it’s all breathtaking.

Lisbon’s mix of the old and the new makes it a place worth exploring. Wander through neighborhoods, grab a coffee, sit in the sun.

The first time we helped the crew put up the sails was magical.

I won't forget the long-suffering patient crew member who taught me to tie a double bowline. It took ages but I finally got it, and was able to teach another passenger.

Plein de moments magiques pendant le voyage. C'était impressionnant de voir le bateau depuis le zodiac quand on se trouvait à environ 50 ou 100 m du navire. Super la baignade en pleine mer.
